Area coal mines were founded in the early 1800s, leading to the establishment of the community of Midlothian. Today, River Downs enjoys one of the best locations of all western Richmond suburban communities with adjacent access to Robious Landing Park and the James River. Stretching across 104 acres, the park includes just over three miles of trails, access to the James River, sand volleyball courts, picnic facilities, and playground equipment for kiddos.
