Situated just 12 miles west of central Richmond, River Downs is a picture-perfect, tree-lined community consisting of three individual neighborhoods. Stretching across the Robious Road Corridor, this well-established community is centrally located, home to traditional and spacious colonial-style estates, boasts meticulously maintained lawns, and is overseen by a very reasonably priced homeowners’ association. This close-knit community hosts a wealth of neighborhood-specific events throughout the year, making Riverdowns a wonderful place for folks from all walks of life.
Area coal mines were founded in the early 1800s, leading to the establishment of the community of Midlothian. Today, River Downs enjoys one of the best locations of all western Richmond suburban communities with adjacent access to Robious Landing Park and the James River. Located close to the neighborhood, this contemporary eatery is known for their tasty lobster wontons, lamb lollipops, and other appetizers featured during their favorable daily happy hour. Wild Ginger is also a reliable spot to enjoy sushi classics and a few creative in-house creations of their own like the power roll and sweet potato roll.
Stateside gastropub favorites are served next door at Toast. Bacon brussels sprouts, Gouda mac and cheese topped with melt-in-your-mouth ribs, and a rotating selection of modern American daily specials have made this rustic, comfortable spot the go-to among locals to catch the big game, grab a quick drink after work, or enjoy a cozy dinner with family and friends.
River Downs residents are fortunate enough to be just down the road from the largest enclosed shopping mall in the Richmond area, Chesterfield Towne Center. Consisting of over 100 shops and eateries, some of the larger brand names found here Consist of Macy’s, Ulta Beauty, H&M, and several others.
For more quiet days, Independence Golf Club is a very popular choice. One of the area's best public golf courses has been recognized by several news publications for its efficient playtime, welcoming atmosphere, top-notch dining facilities, and consistent array of events throughout the year.
Things To Do
The community of River Downs hosts a wide array of events throughout the year to celebrate holidays, changing seasons, and the sense of community as a whole. One of these events is the annual spring market, of which Annemarie herself is a generous sponsor. When temperatures warm up and roadside flowers bloom, locals can look forward to a weekend of food, drinks, and entertainment put on by talented locals. Throughout the year, the expansive Robious Landing Park is heavily enjoyed by residents of all ages. Stretching across 104 acres, the park includes just over three miles of trails, access to the James River, sand volleyball courts, picnic facilities, and playground equipment for kiddos.
